Red Birth Green:
Due to the staggering infant mortality rates of Black babies in Kalamazoo County, Rootead’s doula collective was created as an advocacy and support group for birthing people of color.
A doula is a professional, non-medical birth and postpartum support person. Rootead has shifted from our doula collective, into community-based Red Birth Green - an extension of Rootead designed to assist clients and their families in achieving the most positive, healthy birthing experience and post partum year as possible. To achieve this, Rootead connects pregnant people to birthwork services, including; stress-reducing classes, empowering programs, doula services and more. In addition, Red Birth Green has a unique training program - open to anyone interested in birthwork. It is especially important for Rootead to focus on training Black birthkeepers, to provide Kalamazoo with advocates that reflect it's demographic. |
